Chapter Nineteen

When most people have the house to themselves, they usually do some crazy shit like playing games, eating all the goods in the fridge or watching porn out loud, but I spend my night doing the same things I do when Amber is here. I push my chair back and stand up, stretching my tired muscles. The room is dimly lit, with the soft glow of a nearby streetlamp casting long shadows on my desk. It's late, and the silence of the night outside feels oppressive. I need something to take my mind off the eerie thoughts that vampires might be lurking nearby.

I leave my room and make my way to the kitchen. The floorboards creak beneath my feet, and the old house groans in response to my movement. I reach the kitchen and open the refrigerator, the cool air spilling out as I grab a bottle of cold water. The condensation on the bottle feels refreshing against my fingers.

I twist off the cap and take a long, satisfying sip, the cold water trickling down my throat and soothing my nerves. As I stand there in the dimly lit kitchen, I suddenly feel a cool breeze brush against my skin. It's an odd sensation because I don't remember leaving any windows open.I turn to look at the window above the sink, and my heart skips a beat. The curtain is billowing in the wind, despite the fact that there's no way it could be moving on its own. The night outside is still, no trees rustling or tree leaves blowing in the wind.

A shiver runs down my spine as I approach the window cautiously. I pull the curtain aside to peer outside, my eyes scanning the dark street. There's no one there, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm being watched. It's as if the night itself is alive with some unseen presence. My thoughts return to my research and the elusive vampires that seem to have disappeared from this town. I can't help but wonder if the Hunters Guild has something to do with their absence. I take another sip of water, the cold liquid grounding me in reality, but the sense of unease lingers.

With a heavy sigh, I let the curtain fall back into place and turn away from the window. Maybe it's just my imagination playing tricks on me, or maybe I'm letting my obsession with vampires get the best of me. Either way, I know one thing for sure: the night holds secrets that I'm determined to uncover, even if it means venturing into the darkness myself.

After I close the window and step away from the kitchen, a sense of unease continues to gnaw at me. The cool breeze, the flapping curtain—it all feels too eerie, too inexplicable. I try to brush off my apprehension, convincing myself that it's just my imagination playing tricks on me. Back in my dimly lit room, I reach for the light switch and flick it on, hoping to dispel the lingering sense of dread.
